News

We are sorry to have to start this blog with news of the death of Howard Evans, presenter of the Sunday Night Live Show on 107.8 Academy FM Radio.  Howard died suddenly on Sunday, 27th July 2014.

There have been many tributes on Facebook and the Academy FM Website to Howard.  From our personal points of view, we were shocked and very upset to hear of his death.  He had befriended Philip, Naomi, Trisha and Catherine through his radio show, and had been an avid supporter of the Broadstairs Writers Circle.  We are very grateful to Philip who, at very short notice, represented us at the Celebration of Howard's life held at the Bandstand in Broadstairs on the evening of Tuesday, 29th July.

Howard was always enthusiastic about the BWC, and we were interviewed by him three times at Academy Radio.
It was only three weeks before his death that we were on the air with him at the Marlowe Academy - laughing at Philip's amusing poetry and discussing different aspects of writing.  We had no idea that our 6th July slot would be our last with him. Luckily, Naomi took her camera and we include, below, some pictures of us all together.

Howard was an amiable, professional and really nice guy - one of nature's gentlemen.  From our first slot with him, he managed to calm our nerves for a fun and relaxed interview.  Each of the subsequent times we were on his show, he brought out the best in both us and for the BWC.  And he made it fun!!

Howard did much for Thanet - and especially Broadstairs - during his radio career, and he's been very much missed by his work colleagues and the thousands of Broadstairs people - from MP's to business enterpreneurs and artists - that he knew from his show.

Our sympathies go to Mary, a lovely lady who helped Howard with his guests, and who was also brilliant at helping us overcome any nerves and answering questions about our radio interviews.

Many thanks, Howard, for all your wonderful support of the BWC.
We will miss you.

Rest In Peace.
